With the F8 announcement today came the unveiling of Facebook’s latest redesign and repurposing… Timeline.
I didn’t want to wait for a Facebook invite, so I found a way to get the Timeline profile now… hopefully this means I’ll have the time to make it look pretty and organized before the public launch (September 29th?) because it looks pretty bad when you first get started.
It’s not available to the public yet, but it is in Beta mode… and here’s how to get it for yourself:
– start a new Facebook app under the “Open Graph (beta) category)
– return to your profile and activate your ‘Timeline’
– publish now, but only developers will see the new profile (everyone else gets the old one until Sept. 29th)
- Without and with the “cover” image

Very interesting article from the Wall Street Journal today… specifically talking about Full Tilt Poker but this could easily apply to other sites.
“The U.S. Justice Department on Tuesday accused poker celebrities Howard Lederer and Christopher Ferguson among other executives of a major poker website of defrauding poker players out of more than $300 million.”
Full story here.
This is of course in the wake of the online poker crackdown earlier this year.
*UPDATE: Full Tilt fires back in a statement to the New York Times.
How do you stack up in Social Media?
Another guest post for SM Cubed, this time looking at the new measures of social influence on the web.
From follower counts to Google rank to third party scoring, there are a number of ways to gauge your level of influence; or how much of an impact your social media efforts have with other users.
Whether you’re a casual user or a heavy influencer, it is useful to have a comparative value for your social capital. This way you can set goals around increasing your scores and begin to discover how your social influence, engagement and reach truly measure up.
I recently began a short guest post series for SM Cubed social media marketing management. I was introduced to the company by Lauren, who I had the good fortune to meet at BlogWorld 2010.
Titled Build Your Audience: User to Fan Conversion, this 3 part post will talk about how to develop a connection with your audience, convert them to fans, and get them to invest their social capital in your content. Please tune in to SM Cubed Blog for more!
So in case you haven’t heard, some of the biggest online poker sites were shut down today by the U.S. government. Below is the message posted to Pokerstars.com, and the same can be seen at Absolute Poker and Ultimate Bet as well. It’s suspiciously similar to the shut down of media sharing sites like ninjavideo.net earlier this year. Amid the freezing of player accounts and charging of site owners, the real story here is how these sites got caught.
